Francois Louw began his career as a correctional official in 1992 and, during his tenure with South Africa's Department of Correctional Services, gained extensive knowledge and experience in the field of corrections. His practical expertise spans various areas, including the Admission and Release System, Risk Profile Management, Case Management, Correctional Supervision and Parole Boards, Community Corrections, Remand Detention Management, and Correctional Programs. He has conducted several research projects for the Department, focusing on re-offending measurement, parole violator profiling, and the development of correctional programs for female offenders.

Dr. Louw graduated cum laude with both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Penology from the University of South Africa (Unisa) and joined Unisa as a lecturer in the Department of Corrections Management within the College of Law, School of Criminal Justice, on 1 September 2016. He has received a Certificate of Excellence in Student Support for his outstanding contributions to teaching and learning. In addition to supervising postgraduate students, he teaches undergraduate courses in Community Corrections and Restorative Justice.

Dr. Louw is a member of the Criminological and Victimological Society of Southern Africa (CRIMSA) and the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) Research and Development Expert Group. He also co-founded and currently leads the engaged scholarship project "Tshokollo ya Setšhabeng" (Corrections in the Community) within Unisa's College of Law. His academic and research interests include community corrections, correctional officer safety and wellness, restorative justice, and recidivism.
